NANOTECHNOLOGY:
International Workshop on ‘Nanotechnology in the Edge of Convergence’,
24-27 November 2011, Malaysia
The Centre for Science and
Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM
S&T Centre) presents its compliments to the Embassy of Bosnia
and Herzegovina in India and invites nominations for participation
in a 4-days International Workshop on ‘Nanotechnology in the Edge
of Convergence’ on 24-27 November 2011 being held at Selangor, Malaysia
in collaboration with the Commission on Science and Technology for
Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), Islamabad, Pakistan
and the Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics (IMEN),
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia
The field of Nanotechnology
has become widely known in recent years with a large number of its
applications becoming known everyday to the public at large in a
range of fields of science and technology including materials sciences,
semiconductor physics, micro-fabrication, electronics, aviation,
molecular biology, textiles, energy, medicine, etc. Nanotechnology
has the potential to create many new materials and devices and it
possibly holds solutions to world’s problems related to water, agriculture,
nutrition, health and energy. For developing countries, it provides
a new focus for research for producing complete, high performance
products and showing its potentiality in the form of improved water
purification systems, energy systems, healthcare, food products
and communications, etc. At the same time, nanotechnology has also
raised some concerns about the toxicity and environmental impact
of nanomaterials and their potential effects on global economics.
The Malaysia workshop is being held to deliberate on these issues
and to increase awareness of this field’s high significance for
developing countries in their developments agenda.
Request for participation
in the forthcoming Malaysia Nanotechnology workshop may please be
sent to the NAM S&T Centre (E-mail: namstct@gmail.com
, namstct@bol.net.in
, apknam@gmail.com
) by completing the Nomination Form, a copy of which is appended
to the attached Announcement brochure (also available on the Centre’s
website www.namstct.org
) . The selection will be strictly on merit and quality of the
extended abstract of the presentation material of the participant
to be submitted along with the completed Nomination Form. English
will be the official language of the international workshop.
Free local hospitality, including
accommodation, meals and local transport will be provided from Wednesday,
23 rd November (Noon) to Monday, 28 th November 2011 (Noon), i.e.
commencing from one day before the workshop and for an additional
day after its conclusion. However, it may be noted that while the
NAM S&T Centre reimburses the to and fro international fare
to the scientists from its member countries to attend the Centre’s
scientific events organised anywhere in the world, since your country
has still not joined the NAM S&T Centre as its member, according
to our guidelines your scientists and professionals for their participation
in this workshop will have to make their own arrangement for the
international travel to/from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and also pay
to the Centre a Processing Fee of US$350 each to partly offset the
expenditure incurred by the Centre in holding this scientific event.
The last date for
submission of the applications is Monday, 24 th October 2011.
A copy of the brochure may
please be sent to the Federal Ministry of Education and Science.
The NAM S&T Centre avails
itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of Bosnia and
Herzegovina in New Delhi the assurances of its highest consideration.
